About the Author

Claire worked in marketing for over twenty years, until stumbling across Black Tudors: The Untold story inspired her to want to bring the too often hidden stories of Black British history to life for the next generation. She is passionate about the need for more stories highlighting people of African descent throughout British history and advocating for diverse representation in children's literature. Her debut children's book Time Tub Travellers and the Silk Thief won the Reader’s Choice Awards in the Diverse Book Awards 2025, won the Ink Book Prize 2024 and was shortlisted in the Selfies Book Awards 2025 and 2026.

She has spoken on panels at We Out Here festival, been interviewed on BBC Radio London, by TFL for their Conversations in the Cloud and featured on the History Roadshow, Can Art Save Us and Race to the Top podcasts.

Claire Linney is a children’s author and book influencer. A lifelong reader she is passionate about advocating for more diverse representation in literature for children and teenagers. After working in marketing for over twenty years, she stumbled across Miranda Kaufmann's Black Tudors: The Untold Story, which inspired her to want to bring the hidden stories of Black British history to life for the next generation.

She’s chaired events for Dark Matter PR, Afrori books and The London Radical Book Fair. Spoken on panels with The Diverse Book Awards, CLPE and Inclusive Books for Children, workshops at the Barbican’s Play Work Do Festival, Big Malarky Festival in Hull, Southwark’s Festival of Words, Canterbury Children’s Literary Festival, We Out Here Festival and Portsmouth ComiCon.  Claire’s biggest love is going into primary schools to run assemblies and workshops for KS2 bringing time travel and Black British history to life.
